What Are Volcanoes?

Volcanic Eruption



Volcanoes are created when matter from inside the Earth escapes to the surface. This material erupts in the from of lava, ash, or other materials that have built up around the openings of these volcanoes. A volcano can be found in many different shapes, but the most common is a known as the "Volcanic Mountain". Other forms will be discussed throughout the course material. Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes in the world, located in Hawai. Moreover, the country is Iceland is also famous for its numerous active volcanoes.

  1. 1)Mount Tambora, located in Indonesia is one of the most famous and dangerous volcanoes worldwide. It has caused serious human and environmental destruction over the past thousands of years.
    2)Scientists have not been able to exactly pinpoint the number of volcanoes worldwide. However it is estimated that there are around 600 active volcanoes that have been recorded to erupt over history, and there exists around 50 to 70 volcanoes that erupt every year.
    3)Lava is the mixture of molten rocks found deep in the Earths center, and explode as a result of pressure.

  2. 1. Besides the Kilauea volcano, there is the famous Mount Vesuvius volcano in the Gulf of Naples, which erupted in AD 79 and led to the burying and destruction of the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
